Calibration wizard field reference
What each field on the calibration wizard's first step means, and an example of how to fill it.
A field-by-field reference for Step 1 ("General info") of the calibration wizard — what each field is for, and a concrete example. For the wizard's overall flow, see Calibration overview; for the type/purpose classification these fields feed into, see Calibration type and Calibration purpose.
Channel
The sensor channel this calibration record applies to. Each channel keeps an independent calibration history and due date — a multi-channel asset (e.g. a transmitter with separate pressure and temperature outputs) shows this field; a single-channel asset doesn't need it, since there's only one channel to choose. Example: a 3-channel data logger shows "CH2 — Humidity" here when you're calibrating its humidity input specifically.
Calibration date
The date the reference/measured comparison was actually performed — not the date you're entering
the record. This is used to compute the due date from the calibration interval below. Example: a
calibration performed in the lab on 2026-03-14 still gets recorded with that date even if you
enter it into Open Gauge a week later.
Registered by
Who performed and is recording this calibration — defaults to you, editable to credit another team member who actually did the work. Example: you're entering historical data on behalf of a colleague who performed the calibration last month — pick their name here instead of your own.
Checked by
An optional second reviewer. Assigning one puts the record into pending approval instead of valid until they approve or reject it — see Approval workflow. Leave it unset for calibrations that don't need a second sign-off; the record is valid immediately.
Calibration interval
Months until this channel's next calibration is due, e.g. 12 for an annual cadence or 6 for
semi-annual. Pre-filled from the channel's configured default interval, but editable per
calibration — a channel drifting faster than expected might get a shorter interval this time.
Due date
Not entered directly — computed as Calibration date + Calibration interval the moment the
record is saved, and shown on the calibration's detail view. Example: a calibration dated
2026-03-14 with a 12-month interval gets a due date of 2027-03-14.
Calibration type
Who performed the calibration — OEM, an External Accredited Lab, your own Internal Lab (In-house), or a Customer's Asset you calibrated on their behalf. This determines what the Calibration lab field below resolves to. See Calibration type for the full breakdown of each option.
Calibration purpose
Why this calibration was performed: Initial (the channel's first ever), Routine (a periodic recalibration), After Repair (following a fix — reveals repair date/description fields below), or Verification (a one-off check). See Calibration purpose for details, including how an After Repair record feeds the Health tab's before/after comparison.
Calibration lab
Where — or by whom — the calibration was carried out. This field's shape changes with Calibration type: a read-only snapshot of the asset's manufacturer for OEM, a picker over your external organizations for External Accredited Lab/Customer's Asset, or a picker over your configured locations for Internal Lab. Example: choosing Internal Lab shows a dropdown of your organization's locations marked as calibration labs, e.g. "Building 3 — Metrology Lab".
Calibration certificate
Upload the lab-issued PDF certificate — available for OEM and External Accredited Lab types only. Open Gauge validates that the file is actually a PDF (both by declared type and file signature) before accepting it. If provided, it's served instead of the system-generated certificate everywhere this calibration's certificate is downloaded.
Reference asset
The traceable reference standard used for this Internal Lab calibration — one of your own assets flagged as a reference standard, e.g. a master gauge with its own valid, in-date calibration. Open Gauge automatically pulls that reference asset's own expanded uncertainty into this calibration's uncertainty budget once selected.
Calibration method
The internal procedure followed for this Internal Lab calibration, e.g. "Pressure Comparison Method — 0 to 100 bar". Procedures are configured per physical quantity; only ones matching the selected channel's quantity are offered.
Repair date
When the repair that triggered this After Repair calibration was completed. This date becomes a boundary on the Health tab's before/after-repair comparison dropdown.
Repair description
A short note (up to 500 characters) on what was repaired or replaced before this calibration. Example: "Replaced the diaphragm and re-seated the pressure fitting after a leak was found during routine inspection."
Environmental conditions
Temperature, pressure, and humidity at the time of calibration, each with its own optional uncertainty (±) — recorded for traceability on the certificate, not folded into the fit or uncertainty budget. Example: "23.1 ± 0.2 °C" records both the reading and how confident you are in that reading, e.g. from the lab thermometer's own calibration certificate.
Notes
Free-text notes attached to this calibration record — anything worth remembering that doesn't fit elsewhere, e.g. an observation about the asset's condition or an anomaly seen during the comparison.
